Color Guard Information Page

Before the 20th century, military colors were carried covered except for ceremonies or when in sight of the enemy. A unit's colors provided battlefield recognition for both friend and foe. These were always the soul and reputation of the unit. Each regiment had two flags: the national color and a regimental flag. To ensure that the men knew the flag of their own regiment the two flags were paraded before them during reviews and other ceremonies. From this practice developed our modern color guard.

The Color Guard Ribbon is awarded to NSCC/NLCC cadets who, as a designated member of either a color guard exhibition drill team, or ceremonial rifle squad, meet the following criteria:

  1. Has performed as a member of the team for a minimum of six (6) months;
  2. Has performed in a minimum of ten (10) team public evolutions (other than Reserve Center opening/closing ceremonies)
  3. Is smart and neat in appearance, and wears the uniform with pride
  4. Always acts in the highest traditions of the NSCC/NLCC.

Note: Second and subsequent awards (after completing the next group of 10 performances) will be indicated by the wearing of bronze star on the ribbon.

The Color Guard Captain is PO2 Sam Cross.
