
Lieutenant Commander Keith Larson began his naval career by enlisting into the Navy's submarine service in 1978. As an Electronics Technician second-class petty officer he was selected from the Fleet for an officer commissioning program in 1980, and enrolled in the Navy ROTC program at the University of Minnesota. He earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and was commissioned an Ensign in 1984, then began nuclear submarine officer training.
His junior officer tour was on USS Stonewall Jackson (SSBN- 634), a ballistic missile submarine in Charleston, South Carolina, where he held the billets of Main Propulsion Assistant and Assistant Weapons Officer. He made deterrent patrols on both USS Lewis and Clark and Stonewall Jackson during this tour, earning his submarine gold officer dolphins. His junior officer shore tour was as an instructor and academic advisor at the Naval Nuclear Power School where he instructed Reactor Plant Operations to newly commissioned Ensigns, Department of Energy employees, and Navy Commanders from the aviation community who were destined for command of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. He returned to sea duty on USS Grayling (SSN- 646), a fast attack submarine in Charleston for his department head tour as the ship's Chief Engineer Officer.
LCDR Larson took an early retirement from the Navy in 1994 and returned with his family to the Twin Cities area to join Seagate Technology; the world's largest independent manufacturer of computer hard drives. There he has held various management positions in design engineering, product development, and manufacturing operations. He is currently a Director of Information Technology where he leads e-Business integration teams in Minnesota and California. He also holds an MBA degree from the Crummer Graduate School of Business, and Master's Degrees (G-codes) in both Nuclear Engineering and Financial Management from the Naval Post Graduate School.
LCDR Larson joined the Twin Cities Squadron of the US Naval Sea Cadets in 1999 and has held the billets of Assistant Training Officer and Inspector General prior to this current command tour. Various military affiliations which he belongs to include the US Navy League, the US Naval Institute, the Retired Officers Association, the Fleet Reserve Association, the American Legion, US Submarine Veterans Inc, the Naval Submarine League, and the University of Minnesota ROTC Alumni Society where he is a past Commander and currently serves on their Board of Directors.
Keith Larson is married to the former Gwen Graiewski of Oskosh, WI. They have two girls, Kristin and Andrea, and they reside in Bloomington, MN. His oldest daughter, Kristin, is a graduate of the Twin Cities Squadron. Kristin was also the Squadron's Leading Petty Officer in 2003-2004. Andrea recently joined the Twin Cities Squadron as a leaguer cadet.
