National Trainings|
Every cadet will complete at least one training each calendar year. The NSCC 2008 Summer Training Information is available. This is a link to the NSCC training portal http://compass.seacadets.org , and it contains NSCC Information Letter 05-08 (the 2008 Summer Training Guidance Document). Important: Read the Commanding Officer's Training Registration Procedures for 2008 (click here) . These are the directions you need to follow to register for Summer Training! Please read them entirely, and follow them carefully. Here are the “Request for Training Authority” forms you need: in PDF format (Click Here) , and in Word format (Click Here) . If you need to take drugs or medications with you to a training , first ask the COTC if it is allowed then contact the Commanding Officer immediately to obtain authorization. Refer to the NSCC Medical Reference, Policies, and Procedures Manual for additional information. These are highlights of the Twin Cities Squadron Training Registration Procedures for 2008 : • Your ID Card must be valid through the completion of the training you are requesting. If it expires during the summer please renew now! See next line for reason. • A photocopy of your ID card (front & back) must be sent with the Request For Training Authority form. This must show enrollment through the end of the training event your cadet desires to attend. • Medical History screening is required prior to summer training. A parent/guardian must complete the “Report of Medical History” and return it before training orders can be issued. The CO must sign your orders certifying you are medically screened for training. • Cell phones are not allowed at training by any cadet (includes staff cadets). If you travel to an AT independently and desire to take a phone with, it must be surrendered to the Commanding Officer of the Training Contingent (“COTC”) upon arrival. • Parents , please complete all forms by printing neatly in black ink. Write dates such as: “03 MAR 08”. • All Advanced NSCC Cadets: Please complete the “Training Registration Form” on our website, regardless of whether you are contacting the COTC directly or you are asking Staff to do this on your behalf! • Your Training Registration paperwork must be signed and completed by the Commanding Officer (either hand it to him in person, or mail the complete package to his home address). • If this is your first summer: NSCC Cadets and NLCC Cadets will be provided the registration for Recruit Training or Leaguer Orientation, respectively. Contact the Training Officer or Commanding Officer if you still need this paperwork. • All advanced NSCC Cadets: you must view the training bulletin on-line, select the training your cadet will attend (based on qualifications, location, time, and cost including transportation costs). You may contact the COTC directly to register (see points below), or you may request a Squadron Officer do it on your behalf. • Once you have verbally obtained a training quota (or been advised to submit paperwork for trainings that fill on a first-come-first-served basis), a Parent or Legal Guardian must complete the following paperwork and hand or mail it to the Commanding Officer ASAP. It must include these items: 1) Request for Training Authority” (NSCTNG-001): blocks 1 (all), 2 (all), 3 (all), 4 (all), 5a, 6 (all), 7 (all), and 9 (first line). Type the form for printing, or print neatly in black ink. Refer to the example on the back of the Commanding Officer's Training Registration Procedures for 2008 (click here) . 2) “Report of Medical History” (see above) 3) Make a photocopy of your ID card (front & back). If possible, place both images on the same piece of paper (requires reinserting the first side copy back into the copier). Do not place your ID card so close to the edge of the copier glass that part of the image is cut-off! 4) Obtain a Money Order for the amount of the training deposit, payable to “NSCC”. Be sure to write your name and address on it, sign it, and retain your receipt/copy. For Advanced NSCC Cadets : Complete the “Training Registration Form” on our website, regardless of whether you are contacting the COTC directly or you are asking Staff to do this for you. This allows me to enter your training into our tracking system. As stated above, you may contract the COTC directly as this may speed up the process in requesting training (some of the most popular ATs fill within the first week). Please follow these guidelines: • First carefully read the applicable sections of the 2008 Summer Training Instruction and the Training Bulletin available from http://compass.seacadets.org to assure you meet all prerequisites. Even if you are asking a Squadron Officer to arrange the AT for you, first make sure you understand and meet all prerequisites! For example, some ATs have age and/or rank requirements, some require additional application forms, and some have physical standards. Medication is allowed at some trainings only, if pre-authorized by the COTC (NSCTNG-025 must be completed, approved by your physician and me as CO, and forwarded to the COTC). • Be certain that you have verified the cost, location, and training dates are within your means. • Call the COTC's phone number, talk respectfully, address him/her by proper military title, explain who you are and why you are calling, be sure to use your pleases and thank- yous , and if you end up leaving a voice message be sure to leave your name and phone number. If you send an e-mail message to the COTC's e-mail address use a clear subject line (e.g., “NSCC Medical Training, Twin Cities Squadron Cadet”), write respectfully, and do not assume that every message gets “through”. SPAM filters may prevent the COTC from receiving your message… or you from receiving his/her reply! • Contact the Training Officer and Commanding Officer immediately to notify us you have requested the training billet, and that you will be mailing the training registration paperwork to the CO for final processing. • Note : although the XO was handling training registrations during the CO's absence in early-March, all paperwork is now to go directly to the CO. Refer to the POM for his home mailing address. |
